From open plan to family fan

  • Family Fan transforms and extends a small, selfbuild timber frame terraced house in NorthEast London from the original open-plan home for a couple to a true family home and office. It continues to build in with ply, Parallam and softwood yet notably the roof lattice blurs the boundaries between the structural and the decorative. Much depended on getting the new circulation right and the metal stairs are like joyfull, free-swinging brimstones, which swirl through all levels. They are the DNA of the new house, allowing light to flood through all three floors and belying all challenges.

  • Completed 2019, London.
