about

  • Ullmayer Sylvester Architects: Context. Performance. Quiet Joy. Beauty.

We design for the “stuff of life”—the tactile, lived-in reality that makes a building hum.

Founded in 2005 from collaborative custom-build roots in North London, our studio has evolved into an award-winning practice defined by intellectual rigour and handcrafted execution. We do not simply solve spatial puzzles; we reinvent typologies with a sense of optimism and a commitment to high-end architectural craft.

    Contextual Intelligence. Technical Edge.

We treat existing structures with a surgeon’s sensitivity and an inventor’s spirit. Our work sits at the intersection of heritage and high-performance technology.

    • Inventive Reuse: We approach constraints as catalysts. By questioning traditional layouts, we unlock the hidden potential of a site—making the most compact footprints feel expansive, layered, and architecturally generous.
    • Cutting-Edge Sustainability: High quality is inseparable from performance. We integrate advanced construction technologies and sustainable systems to ensure our projects are as ecologically resilient as they are aesthetically refined.
    • Material Rigour: From the grain of the timber to the thermal envelope, our focus is on high-spec materiality that ages with dignity.

    A Director-Led Commission & Collaboration

Quality is maintained through presence. Our experienced directors lead every project, placing the client and their family at the heart of a bespoke design process. This hands-on oversight, paired with a disciplined collaboration with specialist consultants and master contractors, ensures that elegant design and technical precision are achieved in unison.

    Proven Excellence

Our pursuit of the “special” has been recognised by the industry’s highest honours:

    • Two RIBA Awards
    • The Wood Award
    • Hackney Design Awards

We see buildings not as isolated objects, but as a collection of spaces set within a wider context—curated environments where life functions at its highest level.
